how to sprout grain for chickens
sprouting grains makes the nutrients more available and easier for your chickens to digest them,
that’s why this post is all about how to sprout grains for your chickens!
sprouting grain is super easy you don’t need a green thumb.
it is especially great for when you want to make your own chicken food.
I especially like sprouting grains for my chickens in the winter
because they don’t get as much variety in their diet as they do in the summertime when they have access to grass and bugs.
My chickens like it best as soon as it has sprouted but you can also feed it when it has grown into short grass.

1. get some grain.
I personally use wheat, but you can also use something like oats or barley, or you can switch it up from time to time.
2. rinse and soak the grain.
after rinsing the grain to remove the dust (this helps prevent mold) soak overnight or up to 3 days.
I know some people add a splash of Vinger to prevent mold,
but in my experience it has stunted the growth of the sprouts (maybe I added to much),
And I have had mold with and without using Vinger.
3. put into a container.
pour into a container with holes at the bottom for drainage.
I used an old plastic tray and cut holes in the bottom.
4. water daily.
Water once or twice a day, most of the time I only water once a day,
after each watering allow to drain completely, or else mold will start to grow.
In about a week, it should start to sprout.
After a few weeks it should look something like this.
